Abstract

Bucculatrix albella Stainton is newly reported for the fauna of Iran. The species is collected in Khorasan-e Jonubi and Zanjan Provinces as larvae and cocoon, and adult, respectively. In the former Province it was found on red date, Ziziphus jujuba Miller (Rosales: Rhamnaceae) in some orchards of Birjand during 2015-2016. This species may be considered as a severe pest of jujube in Iran in the future.

Abstract

Three Phyllonorycter species namely, Ph. coryli (Nicelli, 1851), Ph. millierella (Staudinger, 1871) and Ph. roboris (Zeller, 1839) are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. These species are collected in Azarbaijan-e Sharghi, Tehran and Kordestan provinces, respectively. The first two species were collected as larvae while feeding on Carpinus betulus L. (Betulaceae) and Celtis australis L. (Cannabaceae), in the order, and the last one collected as adult in an Oak forest using light trap. The genus Carpinus L. and C. betulus are newly reported as larval host plant for Ph. coryli. Brief taxonomic characterizations of these species are provided and an updated list of the Phyllonorycter species occurring in Iran is presented.

Abstract

The cotton leaf roller moth, Haritalodes derogata (Fabricius, 1775) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) was collected on two kinds of flowering shrubs, Hibiscus syriacus L. and Hibiscus mutabilis L., in Rasht, Guilan Province, during August 2013. This species represents a generic new record for the fauna of Iran. A brief description of the species is provided to facilitate the identification.

Abstract

Stathmopoda ficivora Kasy was identified based on a female specimen collected in the late of June 2013 in Dorbadam protected area, N. Ghuchan, Khorasan-e Razavi Province. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran. A brief taxonomic characterization of the species is provided and the examined adult female and its genitalia are figured.

Abstract

Acleris kochiella (Goeze) collected in Gilan and Golestan Provinces and preserved in the Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum (HMIM) of the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection (IRIPP) was identified during the study of Tortricidae material of the Lepidoptera collection. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran. A brief diagnosis of the species is provided.

Abstract

The genus Ratasa Herrich-Schäffer, 1849 and R. alienalis (Eversmann, 1844) are identified based on a single male specimen collected in Golestan National Park, Sulgerd region and preserved in the Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum. Both genus and species are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. Taxonomic characterization of the species as well as the adult male and male genitalia figures are presented herein.

Abstract

An examination of the entire Schoenobinae material preserved in the Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum (HMIM) of the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection (IRIPP) revealed the presence of 19 males and 18 females of Scirpophaga tongyaii Lewvanich collected in Kerman Province. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran. Brief description of the species as well as the figures of the adults and both male and female genitalia are presented.

Abstract

The larvae of Strophedra weirana (Douglas, 1850) were discovered in Shast Kola forest (Golestan Province) and few adult specimens were collected in Rasht (Gilan Province) and Ramsar (Mazandaran Province). In Golestan Province, the caterpillars had attached two leaves of the host plant, Fagus orientalis Lipsky, with their silk and were feeding within this shelter. The genus Strophedra and S. weirana are new reports for the fauna of Iran. A brief taxonomic characterization of the species, as well as figures of the adults and male and female genitalia are provided.

Abstract

Teleiopsis diffinis (Haworth) was identified based on a single male specimen collected in Khakak, Mazandaran Province, deposited in the Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum, Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection. The genus Teleiopsis Sattler and T. diffinis are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. Taxonomic characterization of the species is provided and the examined adult male and its genitalia are illustrated.

Abstract

The genus Eidophasia Stephens, 1840 and E. messingiella (Fischer von Röslerstamm, 1840) are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. They were identified based on three and one specimens collected in Kordestan and Tehran Provinces, respectively. Taxonomic characterization of the species, as well as figures of the adult female, collecting data map, and both male and female genitalia are briefly described and illustrated.
