Abstract

Galeodes turcmenicus Birula, 1937 is recorded from Iraq for the first time, based on seven male specimens collected from four districts in the eastern part of Thi Qar Province, southern Iraq. This represents the twelfth species of Galeodidae recorded from the country. The diagnostic morphological characters of the species are described and illustrated, and phenotypic and morphometric variation among the examined specimens is documented. A map showing the known distribution of G. turcmenicus across its range is also provided. We also provide an annotated checklist and an identification key to the species of the genus Galeodes Olivier, 1791 recorded from Iraq.
