NEW EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBER - Prof Dr Laurence Alfred Mound
2026-05-12
Prof Dr Laurence Alfred Mound, a distinguished scientist on the Taxonomy, Evolutionary history, biology and Ecology of Thysanoptera, has joined the Editorial Board of the Journal of Insect Biodiversity and Systematics.
We warmly welcome Dr Laurence A. Mound and express our hope that together we can contribute to the advancement of taxonomy and biodiversity.
Dr Mound is recognised as a leading authority on the taxonomy, phylogeny, and biology of the thrips. Over nearly six decades, he transformed Thysanoptera taxonomy from an isolated pursuit into a global, cooperative discipline, publishing 500 papers with more than 200 co‑authors across 30 countries. His work combined meticulous morphological insight with evolutionary and ecological understanding, producing identification systems and resources such as ThripsWiki that revolutionised accessibility to thrips data. His mentorship of students worldwide, his openness to interdisciplinary exchange, and his belief that taxonomy is about “understanding the diversity of life and its connections” define him as a visionary who built the modern foundation of thrips research through intellect, humility, and enduring collaboration. His vast number of published works and resources related to thrips are used daily by biosecurity workers all around the world.
